Equinox Shipping Group continues to strengthen its operational footprint in Indonesia with the successful deployment of Samudra Ayu, a product tanker that now plays a key role in supporting the nation’s domestic energy distribution network.
Samudra Ayu is a product tanker measuring 103.97 meters in length with a gross tonnage of 29,867. Built in China in 2012, the vessel was initially engaged in domestic trading within Chinese waters, serving as a reliable carrier for various refined oil products for more than a decade.
In March 2025, Equinox Shipping Group acquired Samudra Ayu as part of its strategic fleet expansion plan aimed at strengthening the company’s capabilities in the Indonesian domestic tanker market.
Following the acquisition, the vessel was mobilized to Batam, Indonesia, to undergo a comprehensive refurbishment, modification, and maintenance program. This phase included extensive technical upgrades, hull and machinery overhauls, and modernization of navigation and safety systems.
All works were carried out to ensure full compliance with Indonesian classification standards and flag state requirements. During this period, Samudra Ayu successfully completed her reflagging and reclassification process, officially joining the Indonesian registry under Equinox Shipping Group’s management.
The upgrade program enhanced the vessel’s operational reliability while aligning her performance with Equinox’s core principles of safety, environmental responsibility, and operational excellence.
After completing all inspections, Samudra Ayu commenced trading in the Indonesian domestic market in September 2025. She now transports oil and refined petroleum products between key ports across the Indonesian archipelago.
The deployment of Samudra Ayu represents an important milestone for Equinox Shipping Group, reinforcing its role in supporting Indonesia’s growing energy logistics sector and serving the nation’s vital energy needs with efficiency and pride.
